Napili Kai

In planning our first trip to Maui in 1998 the choice of a hotel was discussed with some vigor. Billed as Maui's most Hawaiian resort, the Napili Kai Beach Resort's relatively quiet beach and uncrowded appearance won our vote. Our 1998 stay exceeded our expectations (sorry, that sounds like something from the standard HR personnel evaluation form). The easy going and unhurried style provided a very relaxing Easter escape. When we checked out, we said we'd be back. So, in 2000, we did.

The sculpted looking trees are Kiawe (I could be wrong). The Kiawe is native to the South American countries of Peru, Columbia and Equador. What is truly interesting about this is that all the Kiawe trees on the islands are said to be descended from a single tree planted on Oahu by the Catholic Priest, Father Bachelot, in 1828.
