The Bund

On the west bank of the Huangpu River extending south from the mouth of the Wusong River along Shongshan Dong Road is a recently reconstructed area call The Bund. From an Anglo-Indian word referring to an embankment on a muddy shore, The Bund is a favorite promenade for locals and visitors alike. Once an area of gardens restricted to the Chinese by the then ruling colonial powers, today it is an area popular for tourists to view the rich architectural history and for romantic strolls by locals. The area is most impressive at night when the buildings of the area are wonderfully illuminated.

Herbert Wong, our local guide, made The Bund at night a "must see" area for the group. Shown with Herbert are, Barbara, L, Nancy, and Gretchen.
