Guilin, China
Rice, Rice, and Rice

It is estimated that half of the world's population subsists, to some degree, on rice. Two countries, China and India, contain roughly one-third of the worlds population and grow over half the world's rice.
.
Here, in areas surrounding Guilin, you can see rice paddy after rice paddy. As we drove up the mountain to the village of Lonshan and looked between bamboo trees you could see countless terraced fields of flooded rice and start to get a sense of the 180 million metric tons of China’s annual rice production
(1992 World Almanac).

These photos were taken with an Olympus APS camera with 400 speed film. The haze in the valley is rain. It rained all morning.
